From Xinjiang Thanks to an invitation by the Penang Arts Council, the Xinjiang Song & Dance Ensemble came from Kuala Lumpur, where they had been performing, to help raise funds for NASAM, the National Stroke Association of Malaysia. It was disapponting to see the absence of Malays at the show which displayed the culture of their fellow Muslims from the Uighur (Uzbek), Kazakh and Tajik peoples. Most popular was the Bowl Dance, where cups of water remained miraculously stable on the heads of dancers without spilling their contents. However the Dewan sound remained as deafening as it was two years ago, when someone decided it was not loud enough It spoilt the evening. |
